Perspective and Data in Cybersecurity

Friday, November 13, 2015 - 3:50 pm to 4:20 pm

The press, and the security industry, often attribute high profile data breaches to “sophisticated cyber actors”. While the scale of disclosure following these breaches is exceptional, the attackers responsible are not. Simplicity, not sophistication, distinguishes these attacks. The data show that the commonalities among attacks far outweigh the differences. Stripping things of their complexity, changing perspective, and thinking differently all reveal new paths toward solving problems. This talk will explore the ways redefinition can illuminate solutions in cybersecurity and data science.
